- They were disappointed with the result of the November Revolution. The moderates under Ebert came out on top and many of the old regime kept their jobs. The government that emerged was a Social Democratic one. This was a disappointment for those on the left who wanted more radical policies such as nationalisation of important industries.

- They wanted a Communist government.
